To this end, VOAC seeks to ensure the safety and security of the clients, to teach them independent living skills, to promote their integration into the community, to provide assistance in emergencies, and to operate the program within VOAC policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
The objectives of the PGBH program are:
- Reduce the return rate of community placements to a state hospital setting.
- Reduce community psychiatric hospitalizations.
- Increase community integration by expanding recreational and social activities, and educational and employment opportunities.
Facility Description
PGBH is a community based behavioral health provider offering Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) services and Residential Rehabilitation Program (RRP) services to persons with chronic mental illness. VOAC offers these services to residents of Maryland in three locations: Montgomery County, Baltimore County, and Prince George’s County. Clients of our behavioral health programs, through individualized rehabilitation and program planning, will work with staff to maximize their strengths, gain supports and develop and maintain skills necessary to progress and move towards independent living.
Persons Served
Prince George’s Behavioral Health (PGBH) provides community-based residential rehabilitation services to individuals who are chronically mentally ill, as well as a psychogeriatric program which provides mental health services for individuals who also suffer from significant somatic illness(es). PGBH services individuals from state hospitals, (i.e. Spring Grove Hospital Center, Springfield Hospital Center, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center), local hospital providers, and from members of the community. All referrals must be linked to Prince George’s county and be referred via the Prince George’s County Core Service Agency.
Services Provided
RRP services are provided in a flexible manner designed to meet the changing needs of every client. These services are designed to further promote the client’s ability to engage and participate in community based activities. In addition to community integration training, clients will learn and strengthen daily living skills in a supportive environment staffed by mental health professionals. Program staff will be qualified to identify and address, with client involvement, rehabilitation needs. As in the PRP, the RRP will offer continuous goal-directed training, geared towards rehabilitation, integration into the community, and independent living.
