Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas announced Mike Sheedy's hire as Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Neighborhood Development Corporation (MANDC). The Mid-Atlantic Neighborhood Development Corp. is a joint venture partnership between Volunteers of America National Services and Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas to continue developing affordable housing opportunities for those who are most in need.

Sheedy is an architect and 20-year commercial real estate veteran. In this new role, Sheedy will establish MANDC as a regional affordable housing developer in the Mid-Atlantic and formulate and implement the MANDC affordable housing development strategy in collaboration with the board.

Sheedy is excited to play a role in the vision of VOACC by making affordable housing part of our ongoing work with low-income families, veterans and seniors.

“There is a huge need for affordable housing right now, and in this role I can get creative with how we address the issue. From land acquisition and new construction, to adaptive reuse and partnerships with local churches and other property owners. This flexibility will allow our ‘church without walls’ to help a diverse group of individuals and families.”

– Mike Sheedy

Spending the majority of his life in Maryland, Sheedy, an Army veteran serving from 1993-2001, joins VOACC after spending nearly 10 years as the Senior Vice President for a Baltimore-based real estate development company.

“We are very excited to have Mike lead our affordable housing development subsidiary. With his background and experience, he will make an immediate impact in delivering new housing to the underserved populations in our region. Mike will have a large part in meeting our goal of 3-4 affordable housing projects in the next several years and helping reduce that affordability gap”

– Russ Snyder, CEO & President

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, and the Wharton School of business, Sheedy resides with his wife, Justine, and four daughters (H.S. sophomore & senior and two college graduates) in Towson. MD. His family enjoys time together, hiking and traveling within the country, exploring all the U.S. has to share.

“I’m excited to get to work. I was fortunate to inherit a long list of potential partners to call on, and I’ll be dusting off my ‘rolodex’ to reach out to contacts I believe can help our organization.”

– Mike Sheedy
