Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas Announces Partnership with Lawson Properties to Offer Integrated Supportive Housing Services

VOACC has a goal of ending and preventing homelessness. Collaboration, innovation, and a learning culture increases the impact of our mission.

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas (VOACC) has been awarded the opportunity to provide Integrated Supportive Housing Services in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Developments (LIHTC) by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) through June 30, 2024 in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This two-year contract allocates approximately $1,300,000 in funding which will allow VOACC to provide tenancy support services to up to one hundred (100) individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and serious mental illness (SMI) in conjunction with DBHDS’ LIHTC Permanent Supported Housing (PSH) Initiative.

“VOACC has more than 26 years of experience providing community-based and housing programs that serve individuals with IDD and/or SMI diagnosis. We are proud to partner with Lawson Companies and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services to provide person-centered supportive housing services and programs to vulnerable individuals in Northern Virginia.”

says Caprice Brown, VP of Virginia Programs.

In alignment with a Housing First approach, DBHDS prioritizes referrals of individuals experiencing homelessness; individuals living in congregate settings or family homes interested in living independently; and individuals frequently in contact with crisis, hospital, or criminal justice systems due to housing instability.

VOACC will provide integrated housing services including case management, budgeting and bill-paying support; help with community social connectivity; financial assistance for food and transportation; crisis prevention; and peer recovery counseling.
